Lex Gets Excited By The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Eon Gold

In todays video Lex talks you through the Roger Dubuis brand, before getting excited about this stunning piece of Hyper Horology, as he calls it. In 2005, Roger Dubuis introduced the first Excalibur watch. The predecessor of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Eon Gold that we have with us today. The watch, named after King Arthurs sword, is extravagant, to say the least. Not only due to the impressive 153,000 price tag, but also because of its next-level execution. The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Eon Gold features skeletonized movement with a single flying tourbillon, consisting of 194 parts. Every part is finished at an incredibly high level, done by the skilled craftspeople at the Roger Dubuis manufactu [...]

Jaeger-LeCoultre Mark 11

Most of you will know the IWC Mark series, however, Jaeger-LeCoultre has produced a similar watch in the past. The British Military of Defense (MoD) issued watches to navigators in the RAF and later on, also in the Australian RAAF. These watches have been produced by both Jaeger-LeCoultra and IWC. And as you can see below, they appear to be very similar. With some help of Dale, I stumbled across a site called MarkEleven.com, that give a lot of background on the Jaeger-LeCoultre Mark 11 and tries to track them. A very interesting site, and project! [...]

Big Pilot, Little Prince - Introducing The IWC Big Pilot's Watch Monopusher "Le Petit Prince"

Recently, I went along to the London stop of the IWC roadshow in Covent Garden. It was an excellent opportunity to view watches that seldom see time in a boutique. Take, for instance, the Big Pilot Top Gun Mojave that is garnering a growing waitlist. IWC also demonstrated the relative mass of a selection of its materials. A block of Ceratanium is far lighter than an equal size block of steel, yet still solid and scratch-resistant. The mass delta may not surprise anyone, but experiencing Ceratanium with a 1:1 comparison gave me a newfound respect for material science advances. IWC makes a further advancement today with its first-ever Big Pilots Watch with a chronograph. Not only is the new Big [...]

The Agent's Watch - 007

With todays announcement of the new Bond25 release, we thought it was time to run you by all previous Omega Seamaster watches that Bond had on his wrist.James Bond SeamasterSince over two decades, the Omega Seamaster is a trusty companion to the most famous spy in the world; James Bond. It was 1995 when Her Majesty's secret agent strapped an Omega on his wrist for the first time. Throughout the years, just like the timepieces, the taste of Mr. Bond evolved and broadened. He went from quartz to mechanical, from a single watch to wearing multiple models by the brand on the silver screen. It was also the time when the production company realized their franchise needs to be brought up to speed. [...]

In our Sunday Morning Showdown, two of our writers go head-to-head in an epic showdown for the ages. Strong opinions and hysterical hyperbole are welcome (so feel free to join in with the fun in the comments section below). And don't forget to let us know which watches you'd like to see torn to shreds/effusively exalted next week. We'll try and feature as many of our readers' choices as we can. After a month out, we return. Re-energized and ready to take to the skies with the Blancpain Air Command Vs. the Breguet Type XXI.It has been a while since our last Sunday Morning Showdown. And that is for a good reason. At the beginning of each edition, just like above, we ask for suggestions from ou [...]

Wrist Game or Crying Shame: Longines Legend Diver No Date

Were back with Wrist Game or Crying Shame and this week we take a look at the Longines Legend Diver no date. But firstLast week, we featured another twin crown diver (thats blatant foreshadowing) with the IWC Aquatimer Cousteau Divers. Despite its rough and semi-ready appearance, apparent mechanical foibles, and overt branding, the watch resurfaced with a 71% Wrist Game win. As I hinted above, were staying the course on our underwater voyage. This time, we go retro with the Longines Legend Diver No Date. The Longines Legend Diver No DateThe Longines Legend Diver No Date first came ashore back in 2007. Thinking about it, thats a hell of a long time ago For the youngsters out there, this watch, [...]

Introducing The Time+Tide - Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Night Surfer

Our friends from down under have today launched a new collaboration with Zenith. The Aussies announced the collaboration over the weekend with a slickly produced teaser video. Said video indicated we were looking at something from the Defy range, but the finer details were well obscured. Today, we get to see the Time+Tide a Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Night Surfer in all its glory! It didnt take a super sleuth to work out that we were getting a new Defy model. The case was quite evident in the teaser video, but that was just enough to pique our interest and keeping us guessing until the full reveal today.Enter the Night SurferSeeing the fully lit images gave me a welcome surprise. The Time+T [...]

OMEGA Takes First And Second Spot In The TOP 3 Of Most Valuable James Bond Watches

Last Friday, Christies in London was having the 50 years of James Bond auction, where Bond fans could bid on officially used items in the famous 007 movies. We are of course especially interested in the watches that Bond wore in his movies. In Skyfall, 007 is again wearing an OMEGA Seamaster on his wrists. Both an Aqua Terra and a Planet Ocean, two sub collections of the famous Seamaster series. The Planet Ocean that Daniel Craig wore during the movie shoot, has been auctioned for the stunning amount ofe157,250 GBP (?$254,273 USD / CHF 236,473).There was a lot of rumor and gossip around this watch, as OMEGA kept it quiet for a long time which watch would be used in Skyfall. After it appeare [...]

The Fast And The Fratelli - Shootout Round: Tomas's Yema Speedgraf Vs. RJ's Omega Speedmaster Apollo 8

The final lap of the shootouts brings a lug-to-lug fight between two extremely individualistic competitors. Its the Yema Speedgraf against the Omega Speedmaster Apollo 8, and if it wasn't for their chronographs and tachymeter scales, it would be hard to find common ground between these two racers. Who will make it through? You decide! The Omega Speedmaster Apollo 8 won a close race, defeating the Breitling Chronomat Frecce Tricolori. Its going up against the Yema Speedgraf, which, surprisingly, left the legendary Yema Rallye Andretti in its rearview mirror. Betting odds are much more in favor of the Swiss Omega today, but the French Yema proved in the last round that it doesn't give up easily [...]

Ulysse Nardin GMT Perpetual 52Mondayz, week #52

This 52Mondayz episode is more or less on a Sunday, its Christmas However as the calendar indicates that Christmas is on a Monday this year, here we are. The last 52Mondayz of 2017, it had to be a special one. And as next week Monday will be January 1st 2018, I want to wear a perpetual calendar to see all that happen. The Ulysse Nardin GMT ? Perpetual is my weapon of choice. The Ulysse Nardin GMT ? Perpetual on my wrist.Ulysse Nardin GMT ? Perpetual in 18k rose goldIn 1999 the Ulysse Nardin GMT ? Perpetual was the successor of the Perpetual Ludwig, which was introduced in 1996. The Perpetual Ludwig was a totally new type of perpetual calendar watch. While perpetual calendars at that time were [...]

LUME: The Brightest Watches And Gear To Light Up Your Winter Nights - Including A. Lange & Sohne, TAG Heuer, And Linde Werdelin#ORANGE Dutch King's Day Special: The Best Watches And Gear From TAG Heuer, Doxa, Omega, And More

There is nothing like a flash of LUME to brighten up those gloomy winter days. And it's no longer a gimmick; it has been embraced by the big hitters of horology and fashion. Who would have thought that we would see bright lume on a Lange dial or the fabric of a high-tech sports jacket?I get seriously frustrated by weak lume. I stay off-grid while I'm sleeping, with my cell phone left downstairs and a watch on my wrist. While we have a digital clock radio on the night table, I prefer peering sleepily at my wrist to ask myself why I'm awake at 5:00 AM. Id love the full effect of a lume dial while having a late-night walk, or for the more adventurous among us, while hiking or camping. The last [...]

Two Patek Philippe Nautilus Watches: 3700/1A Versus 5711/1A

Since the introduction of the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A in 2006, the watch has reached a mythical status. Especially during the last few years, it seems this watch has been picked up by a larger audience than ever before. With a retail price of?26.810,- Euro, not an easy sell for an all stainless steel watch with no complications other than a date. Wrong These watches have a long waiting list today, and a pre-owned Nautilus 5711/1A is not a cheap alternative with prices starting at around 40.000,- Euro. It is the watch craze we live in today I am afraid, but it has gone to extremes with the Nautilus.Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700/1A and 5711/1A TodayThis article is a comparison between th [...]

The Watch/Wrist Size Dilemma - Is There Such A Thing As A Watch That's Too Big Or Too Small?

This is largely going to be a visual exercise. What you're about to see is three Fratelli Sofia, Nacho, and Jorg trying on a wide range of watches. Nothing new so far, I agree. But what they will be doing is wearing very differently sized watches, ranging from the elegant Cartier Tank Solo to the beast-like Omega Seamaster Ploprof to see and feel what fits and what doesn't. We are trying to settle a watch/wrist size dilemma is there such a thing as a watch thats too big or too small? Since this is no exact science, there is and will be plenty of room for debate.Whether something is too big or too small in the case of a watch is always and I repeat, always a matter of personal preference. The [...]

Dear Omega, Bring Back The Seamaster 300 M 2254.50

Ever since I first got into watches, there have been a few pieces that have always struck me as special. The Rolex Explorer II 16570 is one example. Another is the Omega Seamaster 300 M ref. 2254.50. This is a watch that takes us back to the days of aluminum bezel inserts and Pierce Brosnan playing the world's favorite British secret agent. Though the original Omega SMP shares its 1993 birthyear with the author, the specific model I'll be making a case for today, the fifth-generation SMP, was released in 2000. With its sharp sword hands, it's this brilliant iteration of Omega's flagship dive watch that I'd love to see make a comeback today. As the latest reference in the Seamaster line (the [...]

EXPLORE The World Again: From Deep Sea Diving To Mountain Treks With Omega, Rolex, G-Shock, And More

The hashtag EXPLORE has been misused for fashion purposes, maybe even by myself, on Instagram and other SoMe channels. This time, however, its the real deal. Maybe you fancy yourself exploring tropical reefs next summer with a dive watch strapped over your wetsuit. Or there might be a mountain range in Nepal with your name on it.Personally, Im trapped in my self-imposed bubble of a guilty conscience, living in Norway and not enjoying nature. Perhaps Im merely channeling here, but with the pandemic easing off finally (knock on wood), its time to experience more than your (and yes, my) neighborhood. These are the toughest tools and the right gear, but the motivation needs to come from within, [...]

Panerai PAM00510 Review - Panerai Luminor Marina 8-Days Hands-On

Just before SIHH 2014, I received this Officine Panerai Luminor Marina 8-Days reference PAM00510 for a review. A week of wearing this Panerai made me go back 10 years ago, when I first bought a Panerai Luminor Marina. A watch that I fell immediately in love with at the time, with its large case and thick vintage looking calf strap. This time however, the Panerai comes equipped with an in-house developed 8-days power reserve movement instead of the Unitas based hand-wound movement it had before. Lets have a look at this PAM00510 that was introduced to us about a year ago, during the SIHH 2013 exhibition in Geneva.I even quite well remember where I saw the Panerai Luminor Marina up close when [...]
