Thoughts From Afar: My Take On Watches And Wonders 2022 From Back Home In The UK

While its nice to see a gradual release of watches throughout the year, I love the horological assault that shows like Watches And Wonders bring. All these new watches released in one go are like a massive sugar overload. As a bit of a sugar addict, Im all good with that. Some brands played it relatively safe with their launches, bringing small, incremental updates and conservative tweaks you know the stuff. But some brands went big and threw some real curveballs. I like being caught off guard. When brands think outside the box and have the gumption to have a go, I think calculated risk is a good thing. It should be encouraged. This kind of approach helps keep the watch industry fresh and mo [...]

Feeling Big About Going Small With The LeCoultre Baron

If there is something that drives Breitling collectors nuts, it's all the online listings where sellers claim that Sicura was a sub-brand of Breitling. Or, more controversial still, that Sicura watches were produced by Breitling or even that a Sicura watch is effectively a Breitling watch in disguise. Let's make it clear once and for all. To help us, lets focus on the witty Sicura Rally GT with an unusual bezel. The problem mentioned above is endemic. If you go online, you will find many Sicura watches listed incorrectly. And it doesn't only happen on eBay, but you can even see it at auction houses. Why is there so much confusion? Is it just an unfortunate misunderstanding or is it the delibe [...]

Hands-On With The TAG Heuer Carrera CH80

With our personal love for sports chronographs, we were very pleased to see the Baselworld novelties from TAG Heuer. Especially the TAG Heuer Carrera CH80?chronograph. Inspired by the first generation of Carrera chronograph watches and faithful to the original design by Jack Heuer back in the 1960s. Powerful design, pure lines and optimal ergonomics with an easy-to-read layout'? as TAG Heuer proudly quotes on their website. During the introduction of the TAG Heuer Carrera CH80, both dial configurations were shown to us. The high-contrast color combination of black and white on the dial with the sporty looking red accents makes the new TAG Heuer Carrera CH80 a very attractive watch in our opi [...]

In-Depth - Vintage Omega Constellation Watches

The vintage Omega Constellation is the watch that basically started it all for me. The passion for watches that is. A number of relatives of mine had (and have) an Omega Constellation and it were these timepieces that got me interested in watches in the first place. I inherited a nice vintage Omega Constellation from 1968 which I truly cherish as it has been on the wrist of my grandfather for over 40 years (on a daily basis).?I also bought some Constellation watches myself as well through the years. So, it is about time I give the vintage Omega Constellation a bit of well-deserved attention here on Fratello Watches. A few months ago, we (Bert Buijsrogge and I) visited a collector of rare and [...]

TAG Heuer Releases The Carrera Green Special Edition: A Teal-Green Beauty!

Green really is the color of 2021 so far; at least TAG Heuer believes so. Hot off the heels of the recent launch of the green-dialed Monaco, the Swiss brand has decided to green up another of its classics. This time, the Carrera gets goods with the TAG Heuer Carrera Green Special Edition.A new shade of greenThankfully we're not seeing a direct port of the Monaco's green dial color here. I say that with a healthy dose of respect, though, as that shade was delicious. For the Carrera Green Special Edition, TAG Heuer has chosen a very different shade of green, verging on teal. It's a softer color and one that actually quite suits the Carrera silhouette, with the mixture of blue and green hues th [...]

Speedy Tuesday - Omega Speedmaster Legend

Omega Speedmaster LegendIts Speedy Tuesday As you probably know, when the Speedmaster was being introduced in 1957 there were no signs of a role in the space program yet. The Speedmaster was essentially meant for sports people and race car drivers. Once in a while, Omega still grabs back to the heritage of car racing and introduces a Speedmaster that has a link with racing.Michael Schumacher was ambassador for Omega for a long time before hopping over to Audemars Piguet. However, when he won the world title in F1 racing for the 6th time (2003), Omega decided to introduce a Speedmaster broad arrow model to commemorate this accomplishment by the German F1 pilot. The Speedmaster Legend was born [...]

Let's have a look at the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony an underwhelming watch collection or the ultimate essence of a historical maison? In the early 2000s, watch brands tried to convince the public that [...]

Watches And Wonders 2022 - Wrap-Up And Highlights from Rolex, Tudor, Patek Philippe, Cartier, And More

It's over, ladies and gentlemen. A whole seven days of Watches And Wonders in an unseasonably cold and snowy Geneva. And as unexpected as the sub-zero temperatures and frozen precipitation were, there were plenty of surprises taking place within the beige-cloth-lined plywood walls of Palexpo. Especially in the not-so-plywood comfort of the Rolex booth. But it's not all about Rolex. Around 38 brands shared their latest creations with us these past few days. And though we were not able to cross the full 38 off our list, we certainly gave it our best shot. As we settle back into a more sustainable rhythm, it's very therapeutic to reflect on what we saw the things we liked, those that surprised [...]

Experiencing The Rado True Square Automatic Open Heart From Up Close

Its no secret that we are fans of the Rado brand here at Fratello. Especially the vintage-inspired timepieces. These throwback fancies are loved by many Fratello team members. But the brand also made its mark in the 1990s with the introduction of a series of black ceramic watches. The material, the color, and the minimalist design propelled the Rado name to the forefront of the watch industry. The all-new Rado True Square Automatic Open Heart is a brand new addition to the Rado collection that takes us back to that time. And it brings back a lot of memories.Whenever I think of Rado, I think of its fully black ceramic watches. As a teenager, the sight of a black Rado Ceramica in a retailers s [...]
